Orchestra

I participated in the orchestra. I played the violin. It was a good experience for me to be able to be exposed to many people and this will give me self-confidence and develop my self-esteem.

I learned that I can overcome my stage fright or  being in front of many people. I was really nervous performing in front of a big audience, because if I made any mistakes, it would be embarrassing though I think people can’t really see me.

What I did to save myself from any kind of humiliation is by practicing everyday or during any of my free time. This activity made me become more hardworking and brave to meet new challenges. I learned to show my strengths and improve on my weak points. I also learned to stay focused and be committed in whatever task or part given to me.

Jamming Juniors

Jamming Juniors activity that happened on November 18 was really fun. It's an activity where we had to show our own talents.  I played my violin together with my friends who played the flute and piano. Others sang and danced. We had a great performance and we were happy to see that our music and performances made many people happy, too. In addition, we were able to achieve our goal of raising some money for the poor. This was a new challenge for all of us. We had to initiate and plan this concert to raise money, so I was really nervous. But in this activity, I learned many things like how to deal and work with others well since it is a school concert for the needy. All members must cooperate together and show their own special skills. As a result, I realized that in order to have a great team to work, I had to do my part by practicing together with my friends and showed my commitment and cooperation by being punctual in attending our scheduled practices. I also found out that I have to develop my talent more by practicing and learning more pieces. It was a great learning experience for me and it was really fun!

Cross Country

In this activity, I participated by running. It was kind of tiring and I was top five from the last runners. It is such a frustrating event to me but I kept on running anyway. I did not think about giving up because my only goal is to finish the race.

This experience shows that I am not a quitter. Somehow, even if I finished almost last, I still achieved a sense of accomplishment. I am aware of my weaknesses in racing, but it was important for me to keep on going no matter what. Perseverance is the most important lesson that I learned in this running activity.

Cooking Club

I joined the cooking club on Sept 15 to Dec 8. This was a little bit stressful to me because there were mean boys whom I was supervising. They don’t listen to me and they are just playing by roaming around the area. I couldn’t control them until a teacher told them to stop running and that they would be kicked out from the club. Luckily, they followed her. At that time, I felt thankful to the teacher. She doesn’t know how important her action is to me. If she hadn’t done that, it would have resulted to an accident and it could be my fault because I was the one in-charge of taking care of the kids. I realized I’m still a lucky person to get help from the teacher. This activity made me realize I should be more responsible in supervising kids and at the same time, I learned a new skill in cooking. We made spaghetti and baked cookies, which was my favorite part of the activity. This activity taught me to be patient and keep my cool during very stressful times. It was a new challenge for me to deal with children and cook, but I learned to be committed to my duty and persevere until I was able to learn something new in cooking, which I can someday share to my family and friends.

Tennis Club

The tennis club met on September 12 to October 17. The only main task of all club members is to play tennis with other people every Friday after school. To be able to be good at this sport, what I really needed is to practice in order to develop this new skill until I come to love it that I’m excited to do it every Friday. However, due to climate changes especially on this day, we were not able to play tennis.. If given a chance, I would like to continue doing this as part of my new hobby this year.

Playing tennis is fun. I can learn more about my strengths and weaknesses and make myself better by practicing regularly and getting to know the different skills needed to play this sport. If I persevere and if I commit myself into doing this, I will be able to exercise and make myself healthy. I will also be able to develop a new skill that I can someday be able to teach my sister and other people who want to learn it, too.

Brent Day 2014

I participated during the Brent Day at school. I played in the orchestra. I also played violin together with Ellen where we performed the song, "Let it Go" from the movie "Frozen." I think many people were very happy that we played this famous piece that I heard them singing the song while we played.

This experience is unforgettable for me. Not only was I able to show and use my talent, but I was also able to cheer people. I also get to learn many things like the importance of commitment by joining practices regularly, and also cooperation because this is really needed in order for me and Ellen to play and blend well. I have so many things that I need to improve more like my weak points, so I have to keep on practicing.  Learning to play different music pieces is very challenging as I have to memorize every single note, but it something that I really like doing, so it is my passion to develop my music skills further.
